Assessment of Heavy Metal Contamination in Soil and Water for Safety Crop Production in Myanmar

Occurrence of heavy metals and their pollution level in cultivating soil and irrigation water will be assessed. Agricultural practices including inputs application and irrigation practices will be considered as sources of contamination. In addition, assessing other sources such as mining, industries, and waste management will be done to find out potential sources. Soil and water sampling for analyzing must be collected. After that all the data are installed and develop the Map showing heavy metal contamination in the points and nearby. There is very limiting information in Myanmar. Before starting the sampling, expert meeting will be carried out to have complete results from the Project. After that locate the point to be collected soil and water sample. In order to remove the challenge of limiting capacity building of staffs, two days training will be given focus on nature of heavy metal, contamination process, environmental safety measure and potential remediation practices. It is expected that information and amendment technologies will be disseminated.Again, trainings to the crop producers are necessary for awareness and sharing information for investment. Finally, meeting with local experts and regional authorities are going to be done for reporting and discussing about the heavy metal contamination based on the analytical results.Activities are defined as follow in detail:1. Assess the contamination of heavy metal in soil and water at targeted areas     2. Capacity Building program for Extension staffs and farmers Read more...
