According to the Ministry of Electric Power of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, as of May 2015, electricity capacity and infra- structure in Myanmar can meet only 50% of the demand. Therefore, the Department of Rural Development reported that around 70% of the population in Myanmar which are mostly in the rural areas are still inaccessible to the national grid. This has caused the living standard in rural areas far lower than that in urban areas.
In addition, energy supply and efficiency is a cross cutting issue commonly experienced in CLMV countries. Therefore, collective effort to tackle such issue is necessary which may bear better and more effective means and practices that can be shared across the region. The project aims to achieve the design and materials for the training which can be used in other similar future projects in Mekong Region either in academic or developmental nature.
