Development and Promoting of Solar Drying Utilization for Agricultural and ODOP Products

This project aimed at contributing to creating enabling facilities for rural people to apply technology to improve their agricultural productivity and generate income for the well-being of life. The project will support several development programs of Lao PDR such as a national social-economic development program, poverty reduction program, and rural development program.

The overall project objective is to promote the utilization of solar dryers to improve the quality of the dried products for farmers, and agricultural product enterprises.

Objectives

1. To promote the utilization of solar dryers for improving the quality of dried products for farmers, and agriculture product enterprises.

2. To enable facility for rural people to apply technology and improve their agriculture productivity and generate income for the well-being of live.

Outputs and Activities

Developed and tested prototype of solar dryer facility

1 Developed solar dryer facility prototype

Developed solar dryer facility suitable for drying raw material

2 Install solar dryer facilities in selected areas operated by farmers/SMEs
3 Conduct a survey and collect data on demand and characteristics of agriculture and ODOP products and substances to be dried such as tea leaf, coffee beans, grain, meat, fish, noodles, and banana

Enhanced knowledge of local technicians to develop the standardized solar dryer facility

4 Study drying technology in Mekong country and ROK and study tour in Thailand to exchange knowledge on solar dryer technology
5 Organize technical training for solar dryer facility development

Shared lesson learned of solar dryer development and promotion in Mekong countries"

6 Organize regional dissemination seminar to share project lessons learned to Mekong Countries and ROK

Achievements

1.Operated solar dryer facility by the farmer/SMEs

2.Trained local technician to provide service for solar drying system design, system construction and maintenance which will be a chance to income generation

3.Promoted utilization of solar dryer, experience, and facility from project implementation can be transferred or replicated
