Strengthen the Water User Organizations (WUOs) for Irrigated Agriculture Development in the Mekong Delta

Technical Kick-off Meeting

The kick-off virtual meeting was organized on 17 June 2024 with attendance of the PIA, consultant team, relevant line agencies, partners and MI to present and discuss about the project workplan, outputs and activities in details. The meeting came up with agreement on upcoming activities including the desk study about water management and relevant transboundary issues, a site visit in Mekong Delta provinces in the next quarter.

With the aim to provide technical support as well as capacity building to strengthen the water user organizations for irrigated agriculture development in the Mekong Delta, the project also encourages the exchange of information, knowledge and experiences between relevant National Line Agencies (LAs) of Cambodia, Viet Nam and the other regional organizations including the Mekong River Commission (MRC) Secretariat, as well as enhancing skills and capacities for staff of relevant LAs in those countries.


Desk study and site visit

During July- September 2024, the desk study to review relevant policies and regulations related to WUOs in agriculture was conducted together with a site visit in Mekong Delta provinces to collect the information and data on irrigation schemes, agricultural sector conditions of Mekong Delta region. The activities focused on problem identification, application and compilation of supporting tools and techniques to support the project implementation, prepare database of WUOs, evaluate WUOs’ roles in agriculture. After the field visit, a baseline report will be developed for further consultation and action plan to improve the irrigated agricultural development in the Mekong Delta region.
